Reviewing different eportfolios has been an opportunity to look at the progress of other students of creativity and design. (Harapnuik) The eportfolio is a modern way to display and show others what you have accomplished, current projects, and learning opportunities. The idea of having a representation of yourself that will constantly be growing and changing is exciting. I enjoyed reading about the progress of students of their eportfolio after one year because it was encouraging. (Flexon, 2017) Throughout this program, I have had to stop and focus on small tasks instead of looking at the program as a whole. Sometimes the idea of current goals can be overwhelming, but just to be reminded that these portfolios have been worked and reworked through years has been a relief.
When I viewed the eportfolios I considered two main components. The layout and overall design of the eportfolio and the content. I preferred eportfolios that used readable fonts, and colors. I found the black background with white font distracting and hard to read. I got some unique ideas of how to layout content into sections so you are able to read a blog but have access to other links or a twitter feed. Viewing various eportfolios was encouraging but exhausting. Theeportfolios that had double decker tabs, I found too distracting and enjoyed layouts with minimal tabs. Many of the layouts that I was most intrigued by, were ones that I didn't know how to create. So I have a lot of work to do in construction and implementation of my eportfolio.
When I reviewed the content of various eportfolios, this is where I noticed the most differentiation. Some chose to focus more on professional information, while others added personal achievements and accomplishments. I still think at this time, I am going to focus primarily on professional but knowing I can always add or make changes later. Students that gave links to other resources I believe added value to their eportfolio. This allows viewers to not only obtain information about the website author but other informative websites or blogs.
I have enjoyed having additional time in this class to experiment with layout and add to content to my eportfolio. There is a tremendous amount of work ahead of me, but I look forward to the challenge and growth that will pursue.
